Workshop in Ho Chi Minh City
In November I travelled to Ho Chi Minh City and gave a two-day statistical workshop on Introduction to Distance Sampling and Passive Acoustic Monitoring at the University of Science in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. My collaborator from there, Long Vu, had organised this workshop and invited participants from various places in Vietnam. The workshop itself was funded by the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account through the University of St Andrews. In this workshop I gave lectures on distance sampling concepts, how to use the software Distance, how to fit a detection function, survey design and field methods as well as concepts for passive acoustic monitoring and how to infer animal density from acoustic data. In practical sessions participants were able to design their own survey using a real study site in Vietnam and analyse simulated data resulting from the survey.
